AUDITION FOR COMPETITION GROUP

Auditions are open to all dancers who desire to compete with West Coast. Please be specific in your audition application as to the number of competition groups in which you can financially afford. If you choose to withdraw from a group after the group list is posted, only the West Coast Director will choose the group(s) from which you will be eliminated after all groups are posted. No dancer may compete for any other studio while on the West Coast Competition Team.

West Coast discourages dancers from auditioning if they are not serious about being on a competitive dance team. Additionally, the following West Coast rules and requirements, set forth in this contract and as otherwise published by the Director of West Coast during the competition year, are to be followed.

Some dancers come in just to see what groups they are placed in then drop out after seeing they are not in the group(s) they wanted. This wreaks havoc with our hard work and efforts in putting the groups together. To discourage this action, a $285.00 non-refundable fee will be paid at the time of applying for the competition team. ($250.00 will be applied to your competition account and the audition fee is $35.00). The $250.00 competition fee will be refunded only if the dancer is not selected by West Coast for any competition group. No refund of any part of $285.00 will be made if the dancer withdraws from the team after any group list is posted. The audition fee portion of the fee is never refundable.

Please keep an open mind and be a good sport when the group lists are posted. West Coast teachers are very excited to be choreographing for so many talented dancers. The teachers are highly competent and all competition group decisions are discussed among all the teachers. A dancer or parent does not always have a true objective sense of the level of the dancer. You must trust the West Coast choreographers’ judgements completely.

COSTUME AND COMPETITION FEES

Costume and competition fees will be separately estimated and invoiced. Everyone will be able to start making payments as early as September and are encouraged to do so. We now require that everyone make monthly payments on their competition account.

All balances must be paid in full by May 1st.

Costumes and Entry Fees:
The cost per group is usually between $455-$475, depending on what competitions we attend and what they charge for entry fees.

Competitions:
West Coast will attend approximately 4-5 competition per year. This includes Regional and Finals. Dancers cannot compete for any other studio. There are no independent solos, duets, or trios. Any attendance at additional competitions for solos, duets or trios must be under the West Coast School of the Arts competition team name and with permission of both the director and your choreographer.

REQUIRED CLASSES, TUITION AND ATTENDANCE POLICY

The following is also required from all competition performing group dancers:

COMMITMENT:
A 12 month commitment is required for all competition performers. All tuition will be a flat rate paid every month. Some months will have more classes than other months. When we are at competitions, there will be fewer classes at West Coast. There will be no change in fees. All competition dancers will take assigned company classes. There will be no counting and charging by the class as is done for recreational dancers at West Coast School of the Arts or its West Coast Dance Club.

TUITION:
$250.00 per month for a single competition dancer. $225.00 per month for each additional sibling competition dancer. The monthly payments for September through August will be due by the 1st of each month. If these monthly payments are made after the 10th of the month, a $10.00 late fee will be added. (Pay $260.00 and $235.00 respectively)

PRIVATES:
All solos, duets, and trios will be paid in advance of taking the private lesson. You must purchase 4 private lesson slips in advance for each month once your choreographer begins your private lessons. “Green” slips will be available to purchase at the WC front desk (during office hours) and you must purchase one before a choreographer will provide a solo, duet, or trio private lesson. Private tuition for solos is $45.00 each ½ hour per dancer, a duet is $30.00 each ½ hour per dancer, and a trio is $25.00 each ½ hour per dancer. You are reserving time with our choreographers. If you do not show up or are late for your lesson without clearing it with your choreographer, you will be charged for the time reserved.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:
You must attend all regular rehearsals unless otherwise approved by the choreographer. Missing “required” (purple days during May through July) rehearsals must be approved by the Director of West Coast. Please see calendar for Company Schedule.
